Private mosaic courses for small groups of up to 7 people

 Let our instructor, master mosaicist Giuliana from Ravenna, lead you in a practical and theoretical workshop of a week at villa Le Terrae. 

40 hours instruction, accommodation and full board.

Beginner Course 

Base instruction on the theory and technical practice of mosaic, including tile cutting, and the complete execution of all phases of work necessary to replicate antique mosaic works.

Day 1: "Roman copy with marbles".  Learning the direct technique on a temporary base, first theoretic notions. Reticulate of Roman pavement copy 12"x12".

Day 2: The cutting of materials with hammer, chisels, and punches. Preparation of mortar beds. Printing of the reticulate.

Day 3: Provisory application of tessere on the mortar bed.

Day 4: Gluing of the mosaic, tearing of the back support and cleaning.

Day 5: Application of the mosaic on the final support and finishing.

Day 6: Field trip to Roman mosaic masterpieces in the region.

Daily schedule of classes: 8:00 - 12:00  1:00-5:00 . Each student will produce a 12'x12" mosaic.
